The Terrible Tales of Scurvy Jones indicates that outlandish storytelling is becoming instinctive to Mr. Yote. The themes of dominance and malice as portrayed within his lyricism in previous releases are still present, however Mr. Yote insists that “with this project i really wanted to have the character develop and become more dynamic.
In the end he still wants to conquer the sea, but he goes about it in a different more open minded and forgiving way”. It is apparent that Mr.Yote’s characters are maturing as he finesses his knack for fiction.
Amidst his trademark slurred raps and lurching self-production, Sacremento-based rapper Mr. Yote maintains a fascination for storytelling as showcased in each of his releases.
He describes himself as ‘'just a dude from a small village an hour outside of the bay area crafting an ecosystem of locations in characters for this fictional universe that lives inside my head’’.
Mr. Yote is one half of Yoteghost - a collaboration between recent Brainfeeder-signee Iglooghost, with whom he released an EP called ‘Milk Empire’ on Slugabed’s Activia Benz label. He was subsequently featured on Iglooghost’s Brainfeeder release ‘Chinese Nü Year.
